BRAVE NEW WORLD FOUND POEM (Eleventh/Twelfth Grade) page 1 of 3

I. Overview

We have been discussing Brave New World as it relates to our questions of technology and community. For this project, you are going to create a found poem from the text. A found poem is a poem made up almost entirely of short phrases found in the text (not complete sentences). You will choose a theme from Brave New World and write your found poem based on that theme. This will be due on Tuesday, 11/10.

This project will contribute to the following standards:

  • Students can analyze texts using a variety of reading strategies.
  • Students can craft high-quality compositions that effectively utilize the 6+1 writing traits.

II. What It Will Look Like

Your poem will be long enough to be meaningful. I recommend at least fifteen lines. It will consist almost entirely of words and phrases from the text, but almost no complete sentences. It will most likely not rhyme. It will be typed or hand-written neatly. It will be accompanied by a short reflection (two paragraphs) explaining your poem and your process.
