Telling Your Story -- What is a Personal Narrative?

A personal narrative is a true story about an event that has happened to you. Narrative writers put readers in the midst of the action, letting him or her live through an experience.

A personal narrative is written using “I” throughout the story. Most narratives are told using the first-person point of view.

A personal narrative tells the reader why the experience was important, or what was learned from the experience.
