Scientific naming is all based around the Latin and Greek languages. This system helps scientists refer to a specific species of animal. The binomial nomenclature is what a species' scientific name is. Taxonomy is what kingdom, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species a specific organism is called. For example the Mellagris galapavo is actually the wild turkey this is it's binomial nomenclature There are six kingdoms: Animals, Plants, Fungi, Protists, Archaebacteria and Eubacteria. There are over thirty-four types of phylum. A man named Carolus Linneaus invented the system of binomial nomenclature and when they started using this system latin was the language used by educated people and people related to the church. Usually it is a mixture of latin and greek and over time it has stuck.
